80,000 lbs on the Interstate System

164,000 lbs on all highways, including the Interstate System, for 11-axle combinations with proper axle spacing

Single Axle

20,000 lbs on the Interstate System and other highways

18,000 lbs on non-Interstate highways if axle distance is 9 ft or more

9,000 lbs on non-Interstate highways if axle distance is less than 3 ft, 6 in

Tandem Axle

34,000 lbs on the Interstate System and select designated highways

Other State Provisions & Exemptions

The per-axle limit for tandems is 13,000 lbs unless axle spacing is more than 9 ft, in which case one axle in the group can support up to 16,000 lbs.
Two tandem axles can support 16,000 lbs if axle spacing is more than 9 ft and the combination has five or less axles.
Vehicles with idle reduction technology can have axle, vehicle, or bridge formula weights of up to 400 lbs over the limit.
