20,000 lbs on the Interstate System if the GVW is above 73,280 lbs
22,400 lbs on the Interstate System if the GVW is below 73,280 lbs, or if it’s a six axle, and on all non-Interstate highways
Tandem Axle
34,000 lbs on the Interstate System
38,000 lbs on non-Interstate highways
41,000 lbs on Interstate and non-Interstate highways for six axles
Other State Provisions & Exemptions
- For some loads, Maine allows for a 10% weight tolerance provided it doesn’t exceed 100,000 lbs GVW, 24,200 lbs on a single axle, 46,000 lbs on a tandem, or 54,000 lbs on a tridem.
- Vehicles with idle reduction technology can have axle, vehicle, or bridge formula weights of up to 400 lbs over the limit.
